Chapter 15
I had gone out to the park for a jog at seven, and when I returned it was eight-thirty. When I was out there, I ran into Janice Beauvoir walking her dog. I hadn’t seen her since Quimby’s a few weeks back. She had a lot to tell, but as usual had nothing to say.
It was all the same shit. She was still dating the same guy, had the same job and was thinking about getting a Mercedes since her man was going to finance it for her.
“My man tells me all the time that he would just love to buy the finer things in life for me because I’m worth it and there isn’t a damn thing on this earth that I don’t deserve and you know what, he’s absolutely right,” she had told me in the park while her dog relieved himself. “I don’t really want to jump the gun but he’s thinking about marrying me. He told me so. We even looked at rings,” she continued to tell me.
She said all of this as if it was all his decision. The sad part was that it probably was all his decision. Women can be so eager to get a man, that even if it was the wrong man, they would take it (him) anyway. I never understood that. Several of my female acquaintances back in Philly got married to the wrong man and are now divorced. Some were married for as long as eight years and some divorced after only a year. They waited all their lives for that? They could at least say they had the perfect little wedding. Gee, that’s real important. That’s a lesson that I’ve definitely learned. A wedding a marriage does not make. If you have to live with somebody for the next fifty years, wouldn’t you want him to be as compatible as possible? The thought of living day in and day out with somebody that gets on your nerves is just ugggggh! It makes me sick to even think about it. If I’d ever married, say Frick or Frack, Kenny or even video porn boy, I guarantee I would’ve been divorced by now. I’d be willing to bet money on that one.
Then my thoughts drifted to Mark. Could I actually be involved with him? The answer came as quickly as I’d asked the question. Fuck no! I could imagine Tanya calling my house every day looking for him. She probably knew my car from work and would end up showing up and slashing my tires. I still don’t rule out coming home one day and finding Kitty in a pot with some onions and carrots. That girl was really unstable. I find it hard to believe that one of her friends didn’t tell her about herself yet. If Char or I had ever acted like that, we would’ve been slapped into reality by each other a long time ago. I could count on her for a good slap across the face, and she could do the same with me.
